From speaking with you both, I have designed a trip based on 9 days / 8 nights departing Auckland to fly to Queenstown and from there the ability to feel the special atmosphere of an island many dream about but few get to experience. I have designed one activity per day allowing time for you all to be as a family but also to incorporate time together. I have suggested gorgeous accommodation that allows you to rest and to experience without having to rush from place to place. Enjoy!

Depart on your date of choice from Auckland domestic airport and arrive in Queenstown 2 hours later.
Depart on your date of choice from Auckland domestic airport and arrive in Queenstown 2 hours later where I would arrange a suitable vehicle that can cope and give plenty of room for three adults and two small infants traveling around. I have also looked into having two latest model car seats fitted, hence I am suggesting the Land Rover range as I trust the models and know them well.
Taking the short drive to your Queenstown Lakeside home…now this home for example is just a suggestion. I would imagine something with a stunning view but close enough to enjoy a little nightlife in Queenstown over say three nights when the children are safely tucked up in bed. It would be good to know what requirements and budget you would apply for the home I need to reserve for you.
This three-bedroom home has spectacular views over Lake Wakatipu and The Remarkables mountain range. It has two living areas in a spacious open plan layout. It’s an easy 10 mins walk to town and is sunny all year around. The house contains everything to make your stay comfortable with lake views from every room including the three bedrooms, each with its own ensuite and private balcony. The lakefront walking track is easy to access in front of the house or an easy walk along the main road to town. A perfect place to just hang out and enjoy the spectacular views of the lake and the mountains while enjoying the activity on the water. Also, a convenient location to enjoy everything Queenstown has to offer. No need to drive to town as the house conveniently located close to town and is an easy 10 min walk to Queenstown’s amenities, restaurants, cafes, and shops.
Using Queenstown as your place to rest and enjoy may I suggest the following and not necessarily in this order.
Taking the car to Arrowtown, explore a bygone age with the children. Begin by panning for gold at the river’s edge just don’t forget your friends if you find some of that gold. Take wellie or gumboots for the children and a spare change of clothes as they will no doubt love to splash around at the water’s edge before you can change them and head into the little charming gold mining town and walk easily for ice cream and coffee. Take a moment to treat the kids to a museum visit. So much for them to do.
May I then suggest an evening for you both to take a romantic walk from your abode before enjoying an evening gondola ride to the top of the mountain in the center of Queenstown that will delight you with superb views? How about a glass of wine together at The Stratosphere Bar before taking the gondola back to base and walking gently to one of my favourite local restaurants to dine together and enjoy.
The good thing about this evening is it is flexible and can be easily worked around your roles as parents.
May I suggest a later morning experience as a family with you and the two children being hosted on a private Land Rover experience into Skipper’s Canyon a stunning deep river gorge, set amongst the glacial-carved peaks of Queenstown’s mountain high country. The canyon was carved by the infamous Shotover River, made famous by the 1860’s gold rush which saw many people make their fortunes in this dramatic setting. The winding tracks take in spectacular mountain scenery and make for an unforgettable 4×4 adventure. Join Del – Queenstown’s most experienced Skippers Canyon guide on your own private off-road tour. The morning is yours. Del will chat with you and tailor the tour to suit your style. He can make the tour as adventurous or relaxing as you like taking into account the children and they will love visiting the old schoolhouse so they can explore how time has stood still in this place.
I would suggest if the children can be returned back to your abode, you can both take a trip to my favourite winery Gibston and enjoy lunch together and the most amazing Pinot Noir to sip on. A great cheese shop next door is a must too.
Evening time activities at your suggestion but it could be a good idea just to enjoy your property and view with some nice local produce for dinner or bring in local takeout.
Depart your Queenstown property for 10 to 11am taking time to breakfast and relax before making your way to Wanaka a stunning alpine resort town on New Zealand’s South Island, is set on the southern end of its namesake lake with views of snowcapped mountains. It’s the gateway to the Southern Alps’ Mount Aspiring National Park, a wilderness of glaciers, beech forests, and alpine lakes. Treble Cone and Cardrona ski resorts are near the park. Just outside the town is the outdoor maze for children and the sculpture gallery of Puzzling World.
Resting in Wanaka overnight somewhere simple, easy, and enjoyable chosen from a number of my portfolio of property. This is a great place for the children to enjoy Puzzling world.
Again, I do not want to assume that your nanny can take them here and keep the children well occupied whilst maybe you both can take a look at some of the finer aspects of Wanaka to be appreciated such as “The Lone Tree”
Although it is THE most photographed scene around the world when it comes to New Zealand, you have the opportunity to go and see it without being flooded by the tourist, a rare moment in history and one I think you will enjoy.
Now I would suggest I arrange this for you as an early evening cruise around the lake so you can get up close and personal to the tree as well as enjoy wine and some lovely cheese onboard, An hour of bliss before you walk back to your accommodation and I can ensure that your many can also get the children easily back to your accommodation by foot five minutes from puzzling world.
This is where I would like to get you all to Greymouth but considering this is a rather long drive it will be broken up into two sections before you arrive at Greymouth to take the Trans Alpine Train one of the greatest train journeys in the world to Christchurch as you travel across the spine of the great Southern Alps of New Zealand.
More information to follow on overnight accommodation in Greymouth.
Arrive into Christchurch Thursday 11th March
I have quite a lot of work to enter for Christchurch but there are some lovely experiences in the garden city. Known for its English heritage, is located on the east coast of New Zealand’s South Island. Flat-bottomed punts glide on the Avon River, which meanders through the city centre. On its banks are cycling paths, the green expanse of Hagley Park and Christchurch Botanic Gardens. In 2010 and 2011, earthquakes destroyed many of the historic centre’s stone-built buildings and it has experienced such a lot over the past few years that you cannot help but be charmed by a city that has survived to thrive.
I am currently working on taking you after a day and overnight in Christchurch to a hot pool oasis but just looking into accommodation and what will work for you, your children and nanny. https://lovemynewzealand.nz/christchurch-history-to-hot-spring-relaxation/
